only snack time. please don’t laugh. ok go ahead and laugh. I did! I bought a frige full of vegis yesterday. Went to my brothers for Dad’s day and he had cooked a (sort of) luau for his mobilhome park. He had about 5lbs of mixed salad left over, alredy mixed in a hugh bag. I had some for dinner with a little pork at his house. He said that if I didn’t take the rest home he was going to throw it away. So me the one who hates to throw food away brought it home. Woke up this morning and wondered how to use this up with out it going bad too fast. Which it’s getting close. OK you ready?? Yes, I put it in my blender…lol yes my blender. 3 cups then he had cut up fruit as well left over that he gave me so I added 1 cup of that along with my protein powder and guess what? I know your laughing now..But you know, it really was not all that bad. I don’t know what else to do with it. I’ve tried to give some away but to no avail. So I think I’m going to make another little batch and laugh some more…Ok tell me if you all think I’m nuts or what..or are you LYAO??

    5. misnsb says:

      hey why not!? §.

    6. tjnranee says:

yea exactly…I figured some. out there would think I was a total nut case….lol

    7. tajnnree says:

hey missnb, did you say you use 2 tbls of salt. per head of cabbage? I think it’s a little over 2lbs. Sorry I did not write it down. I just don’t want it to be too salty and have to throw it out. LOL..I could always put it in the blender….lmao

    8. mssnib says:

2 heaping TBSP. per head – it is quite a bit of salt, but I understand that’s what keeps the wrong organisms from growing

    9. minssb says:

      and that’s sea salt §.

      yea that’s what I’m using §.

    12. rynngjielarny says:

i used to do green smoothies a lot. when I thought I didn’t like veggies. Spinach or kale with just enough fruit to sweeten (I’m partial to frozen dark cherries) and cold green tea for the liquid. They were a great transition food for me, and I still occasionally make them if I’m sick or super busy working on a project or something and want “fast food.”

      Good for you :)

    13. tjrnneae says:

thanks, I really thought that everyone would. totally laugh at me. I know there are green smoothies but, not with iceburg lettuce with a little red cabbage & carrots. I don’t usually eat carrots (too much sugar) but I don’t think the amount in there is going to hurt. Beside I’m sure not going to pick them out. lol..I just hate waisting my food. Especially now that I’m not working. The only thing is that I really like the crunch of salad. I’m going to do this until I can’t use it anymore. I don’t think I’m going to use my spinach or other vegis with this because I just bought them and I do want some really good salads for the week.

    14. rnrnyanegjily says:

i think that’s a great way to use veggies that. might otherwise be wasted :)

    15. tearnnje says:

yea it is cuz I just had to blend the rest of it. becuase it was in a big plastic bag and going bad already. So I just put it in the blender and then in a zip lock and put it in the freezer. Then I can take some out and mix it with my protein drinks. Not that great tasting but with a little fruit it’s not all that bad. Hate to waste! Speaking of which I just opened my cupboard and crap there were my whole wheat pita pockets molded!! So bummed that I didn’t put them in the frig like I usually do. I think I only ate 2 halves. Oh well I’ll remember this if whenever I buy them again.

    16. csreted_lover says:

    21. irbhtearis says:

AHHH! I hate when that happens!. Either just eat it, or eat a bite and throw it out so it is not tempting you.

I brought at mixed green salad with my homemade curry chicken salad, sliced cukes, tomato onions and micro greens in a balsamic vinaigrette.

And I am starving. Will be eating it as soon as the clock strikes noon.

    26. aecerbmah says:

sandwich, egg, veggies. I got a salad at Cosi yesterday and didn’t want to waste the whole grain bread that came along with it on the side, so I saved it and made a sandwich with it today for lunch out of turkey pepperoni, spinach, sliced tomato, onion, and a Laughing Cow cheese wedge. After that I was still kinda hungry so I had 1 hb egg, 1 hb egg white and a few cherry tomtoes, baby carrots, and broccoli florets. The veggies are supposed to be my afternoon snack so I saved the rest for that.

I am glad Cosi gave the option of whole grain bread as a side to my salad; getting white bread on the side of a salad is such a love/hate relationship for me too!

    27. neagodohoamnldne says:

4 stops to find healthy!. Since I spilt my breakfast and ate my lunch instead this morning I had to go buy some lunch which I dont normally do. I tried to stay close because I was short on time and it took me 4 stop at different restaurants before I found anything remotely appealing and healthy.

I ended up with a pork and shrimp cabbage vietnemese salad. It tastes different then the other place I get and yummy!, I just dont know what the difference is.

    31. ccihago_runnergirl says:

next time, save it for the ducks. today was a salad as well.

grilled chicken (olive oil with salt and pepper) on a bed of shredded romaine with a little bit of walnuts, cranberries and a little poppy seed dressing.

    32. tnanerje says:

R U talking about my blended salad?. If so gee I didn’t even think of that. I could have taken a drive downtown by the river where there are tons of geese. Do they like salad too? If so I just might take some to them.

    33. cgichao_runnergirl says:

que?. no, I was referring to NGHN’s baguette that came with her salad.

      sorry if I confused anyone.

    34. terjanne says:

LOL…LOL sorry thought you read my post up. above about my lbs of salad…sorry. But that did give me another idea about what to do with it. If your curious just read (only snack time, plase don’t laugh) it’s pretty funny but true.

    35. odgaadolril says:

leftover veggie pasta and kale chips. notcho (nacho) and barbi-kale (bbq). yum.

    36. trjeanne says:

can you pleeze tell me how you make. those kale chips.

    37. oddoalgairl says:

i bought them. from here: http://www.rawknrollcuisine.com

however, you CAN make them. you basically just put oil, salt, bbq sauce or whatever on your kale, and put it in the oven at 350 or so for a half hour or so. i think hungry-girl has a recipe.

the ones from the site are totally raw and vegan, and very low in calories. well priced for what they are, but they definitely could be made at home for cheaper if you have the time.

    38. tenanjre says:

ok I’ll check into that. Thanks :) §.
