whey protein & nutritional yeast.
So I’d like to add high protein sources of food to my diet, but I’d prefer not to eat fish or meat on a regular basis.
I checked out whey protein at the local health food store and it runs like $18 for a tin.
Does anyone eat the stuff and like it? I’ve added soy protein to my diet years ago, but not recently.
Also, nutritional yeast appears to be a high quality supplement for many micronutrients. Anyone eat that stuff on a regular basis?
Also, how much of either does anyone eat?

Have you tried spiralina?. It’s one of the highest sorces of vegatable protein you can get.I get the powder by the pound on line. You can try it from a health food store to see if you’ll like it but it’s a little pricey. mix it with your favorite juice.
looks interesting. apparently the aztecs ate this stuff?
nutritional yeats has a cheese flavor. I add it to the top of spaghetti and marinara sauce as if it were Parmesan cheese, or you can add it to popcorn for a cheese taste.
interesting. I’ve had it on popcorn before at a friend’s pad. I forgot about it until you mentioned it.
the whey. powder i’ve used – mostly by incorporating it into yogurt/fruit shakes or by putting it into oatmeal. I used it as a supplement rather than an everyday food source – even adding to to something 5 out of 7 days, a tin would last me a couple of months.
you didn’t mention Bragg’s amino acids, but I use that as as seasoning and to give greater depth of flavor to vegetarian soups.
you aren’t interested in seitan, tofu, tempeh, or cottage cheese?
I eat tofu. and I’ve eaten bragg’s (although lately I eat soy sauce so it should be easy to switch back). I am not really a cot cheese fan, and tempeh/seitan rarely make it into my meals.
Whey would be “easy” in that sense, but do you think cc, tempeh, seitan, etc are comparable to whey?
dunno. i wasn’t a cc fan until i stopped trying to eat it alone. i use it as a milk substitute now with cereals and add a little soy milk to it. i also sometimes use it in place of ricotta cheese in cooking, and add it to shakes. in fruit shakes, it makes the whole thing taste like cheesecake.
I use. Optimum Nutrition whey protein. The cheaper stuff usually tastes like ground up cardboard. If you like fruit flavors, Isopure by Nature’s Best is good and so is Ergopharm. You get what you pay for when it comes to protein powders.
