it’s like the dust bunnies under the bed. if you don’t bend down and look under the bed and keep after them… when you eventually DO look, they’ve built a little city under there!

I was off my normal routine for the last couple of weeks, and picked up about 3-4 pounds.

Weighing myself daily keeps me on top of where things are, so that’s why I do it.

I draw a “line in the sand” at the next even number (5 or 0) above where I’m at and I refuse to let it cross that line. I take immediate action to refocus myself until I get it back down.

    3. I says:

Thats a good idea…. I hadnt weighed myself at all for months. I need to get a scale at home so I can keep tabs on myself. I felt my pants getting tight but jeeeez o peet.

    4. EyihnWtleae says:

and by the time your pants get tight…. you’re stuck.. because ya gotta have clothes that fit! If you don’t have a bigger size already (because you SAVED them).. you need to go buy something to wear.

… which just “takes the pressure off” because then your pants aren’t tight anymore!

    5. lday-k says:

ha! painfully true. I am currently wearing my ‘fat’ pants. When I lose the inches I should tailor them, or give them away.

    6. EyWtaeihnle says:

I had a bizarre experience this winter. I have three pairs of beautiful, and very expensive wool pants from Ann Taylor.

After I bought them, I lost some weight and they got real loose. I had them tailored and was thrilled that they fit beautifully.

A year went by and this winter, when I went to wear them.. I was horrified to discover….

      THEY WERE AGAIN TOO LOOSE!!!

I had to pay $180 to tailor six pairs of dress pants.

I remember all the years when I would get out the clothes from a year ago to wear again, and they didn’t fit — but they were always too small.

SOOOOOOO strange that now it’s going the other way.

And I’m still just as pissed! :D

    7. nmnnaeldghdoooae says:

my fat pants…. which for years, used to be my skinny pants (i can still be happy bout that, right?)

are starting to get a hole in the crotch.

i’m hoping that’s going to kick me in the ass soon!!!

    8. lday-k says:

I hear you. I was so focused last spring, and had gotten down to 142 with a goal of 135. Then, I relaxed a little when I went on vacation — gained 3 or 4 lbs. Did IVF and gained more weight. Got bummed out and unmotivated and gained a couple more. On March 1st I was 155! That was when I gave myself that kick in the ass.

At least you know you need to refocus. Better now than after you gain another 10 lbs, right? The great thing is, you can start today.

    9. naomrd says:

that’s one reason I weigh. myself every morning and keep it in a weight log.

i don’t worry about fluctuations of a pound or two, those are normal. but tracking my weight every day allows me to see when the trend is starting to go upward and do something about it now rather than wait for 20 lbs to suddenly attach themselves to my midsection.

Eat clean and eat small and the weight will come off.

    10. lday-k says:

yep…. when I stopped stepping on the scale daily, I gained weight. I think I knew I was gaining, but since I avoided the scale I could ignore it.

I don’t worry about the daily fluctuations either, and I use this great tool on my google homepage — you enter your weight every day and it gives you your average over the past 7 days. so you can go up a pound or two, but you will still see an upward or downward trend.

Isn’t it crazy how one can put on. 20 pounds and not even really know it? I gained between 10-15 pounds in a matter of a few short months this past winter and had no idea. I can fluctuate 20 pounds and not even change pants size!

I used to hardly ever weigh myself, now I’ve been weighing weekly just for this very reason.

      Good luck on your refocusing

    12. mr2alev6 says:

Argh.. Sorry carby :( Well, now you definitely know you have to refocus! How’s it coming along with the gym front? I know you joined a regular gym, but are you still trying to find a new mma studio?

    13. I says:

wells…. ive been going to the regular gym and lifting again. Also hiit. I have still been looking around for a new mma gym, the one I was hoping to go to has STILL not opened. They were supposed to open up feb 1st. Argh!

Other than that, there are less than I thought in the area, which is frustrating.

    14. mrev2al6 says:

:( . Lack of nearby studios was definitely the reason I never ended up pursuing more martial arts training :( I hope that new mma gym near you opens soon!

    15. arcebameh says:

aw – *kick*. put that free Anytime Fitness membership to good use.

Good for you for taking step in the right direction now and being open and realistic. That’s very admirable of you. There’s no time like the present to refocus on your goals.

      You go girl!

    16. l2sj4adsey9 says:

wow Carby….. that’s rough…but knowing you, you can bust through this. Remember? you are kick a$$ :)

Just set small goals for yourself and work towards those. It’ll go a lot faster than looking at it like OMG 20lbs.

    17. I says:

thanks jess :) . im really not that intimidated by the 20 lbs. I mean really 15 would be enough for me, Ive done it before and I can do it again, I guess it was just dissapointing to know i’d let myself get so far off track you know.

Ive been alittle depressed after not doing Muay thai, plus with the stress of all the divorce details, its just been alot going on.

    18. ld4jsays2e9 says:

I know how hard that can be, but don’t forget!. You are so worth it! And you owe it to yourself to be at your best. Who else is going to take good care of you if you don’t? Like you said, you know you can do it. And you have the willpower, which is even more awesome! :)

    19. Amnda2a0 says:

sorry carby. *kick* I need a kick in the ass too.

    20. leyas42jds9 says:

haha!. don’t we all?! I started this new job and they have free lunch on tuesdays, doughnuts almost everyday of the week and other sugary junk food. sigh. this is going to be tough. I’m also surrounded by chocolate.

    21. Anamda20 says:

oh no!. the state I’m in right now, I don’t know if I’d be able to resist it everyday if it was there. chocolate…drool.

How’s the new job going otherwise?

p.s. you spell doughnuts different than I do (donuts for me)…is that a canadian/american thing or just something that can be spelt differently and I never really noticed it before. hrmmm

    22. leasy42sjd9 says:

it’s actually really awesome!. We had a big event yesterday to celebrate the opening of the new simulation lab. All the VIPs were here, so entertaining was stressful, but I allowed myself one little marshmallow treat and a lemon bar wedge and drank a bunch of coffee instead (which later gave me tummy aches, but I figure that’s better than eating all the cake they had). But my coworkers are awesome and the whole hospital is really a welcoming atmosphere for new employees. They really encourage people’s new ideas and talents. Lots of room to move up.

I think it can be either on the spelling thing, because I see it spelled both ways here. Although back East, I seldom see it spelled donut and they teach us in school that it’s doughnut (big deal, lol).

    23. Je0lw25e3 says:

my work is the same. it is tough lots of days.

    24. BelOlsn says:

bummer. :( . Do you have any idea what you’ve been doing differently, other than the gym thing? That’s a pretty big change in two months.

As you said, time to refocus. I know you can do this.

    25. I says:

eating.. lol it sounds funny, but really…Ive been eating a ton more food than I used to, and in addition to not working out it hasnt been good.

It used to be i’d have a peice of toast and peanut butter for breakfast, now I’ll have a peice of toast with peanut butter and something else aaand something else. Ive got that back under control now but for a bit there it was kindof insane.

Also, baking. Vegan goodies are delicious, but they certainly arent free foods.

    26. Je5e2w0l3 says:

It can sneak up. but at least you know enough not to let it continue unchecked and have the tools and support to get back on track.

    27. nvoalady says:

kick…. I understand. It’s crazy how fast the weight can go on sometimes. Especially in the winter. And tight pants can mean 3 lbs or 20 lbs, so weighing weekly for a while might be a good idea.

    28. BCopos says:

You’ll do it. Good luck! §.

    29. DSneags2nnaiehs says:

Kick!. Followed by a pat on the back and a hug if need be. :)

It’s been a tough year, carby, so don’t beat yourself up about it, m’kay?

Be proud of how far you’ve come and have faith in how far you can go.

With your work ethic, that 20 will be yesterday’s news before you know it!

    30. I says:

you rock my socks off…. thanks des, you always know just what to say lol.

    31. Dannsnhge2iaSes says:

Likewise, m’dear! I’ve missed you in here! §.

    32. indoiiret says:

girl, i feel ya. it’s like a constant battle for me. you’ll get it back. you’re still gorgeous!

    33. I says:

:) . SO are you. and thanks.

    34. Dnhesan2eSigans says:

I can so relate with this, indie…. It IS a constant battle. It feels really overwhelming sometimes. =/

    35. inioedrit says:

i feel like i am constantly reflecting on it. and re-evaluating my methods. AHHHHHHHH it gets harder in some ways, but easier in others. it’s a continual evolution, and i know that i will reach my best someday, but i know i have to work hard to achieve it.

    36. DaasihenSneng2s says:

Yup, I feel ya there! I guess I’m frustrated. because I feel like I’ve given up just about all the things I’m supposed to, yet I’m still not getting the results I want! Sometimes I just feel like “WTF else can I do while still living a semi-normal life?!!”. Arrgghhhh

    37. inidoiret says:

YES!. which leads me to just say “oh f* it” – but only temporarily, because i always DO get back on that horsey.

    38. DseeganaSn2nhis says:

      Same page sister! :) §.

    39. lsje2ad4ys9 says:

but when you look back on where you’ve been…. you see just how far you have come and how much you are VERY capable of. Keep your chin up girl!

    40. Dnn2iaegesSnahs says:

Yeah, I still need to work on my expectations…. In my mind, I am wanting to look like I did a few years ago when I was working out like a fiend and not eating enough. Clearly I don’t want to live like that again and it’s not the example I want to set for my daughter, but it’s still there.

      It’s just hard…
