I heard a story on NPR a few years ago. that has always stuck with me. It was on dentists that work in the MN prison system.
Apparently meth makes one crave sugar, so they were interviewing a (former?) meth addict inmate who drank something like 2 cases of Mountain Dew a day, and never brushed his teeth. And now that you mention dry mouth, maybe he was killing 2 birds with one stone there.
It just totally ruins their teeth (therefore “meth mouth”) and the teeth have the consistency of cantaloupe. I have never been able to look at a melon the same way again.
