Where is our freedom?. I am a little upset, surprised, and overall, I don’t know… disappointed with craigslist.
I joined these forums to both help myself, and to help others but where is our freedom to give advice? Why are the admins so trigger happy to delete posts if they disagree with something, or recommend anything helpful?
I’ve done nothing wrong, and definitely nothing to warrant my posts being deleted.

It’s peer moderated, enough flag; you’re deleted §.
I think if it is flagged it gets sent to admins. and then it is determined if it violates the TOU, etc. It doesn’t automatically come down just from being flagged.
If that is so,. They need to get off their high horse and actually read the thread the post was presented in.
Yes… I dislike slim fast.. are you going to delete this post too? Common!
it wasn’t your talk about slim fast. that got your post removed
It was your posting a link and some pretty amazing claims made by you about a tremendous amount of weight having been lost.
Post like that from new people are looked upon very suspiciously by old-timers.
ahh ok. I only noticed my post count (red posts) was lower. I thought it was the slim fast related post that got deleted.
Oh and….. the site that you recommended is titled “Fat Loss 4 Idiots”…
As in… “only an idiot would get sucked in to this stupid scam.”
and…. Ok, so I got sucked into that ‘scam’ as you put it.. Just because it’s an on-line product, and not a book from a bookstore doesn’t make it any less effective.
Sure their website might be a little hype-ish, but the product isn’t that bad, and in fact works better than other diets I’ve tried in the past.
Any diet that is comfortable doing, and I am able to lose weight on is a plus in my books.
So… to put things in perspective…
I’m a bad person for recommending something that has worked for me.. Why are so many people so quick to jump to conclusions, or think people have arterial motives? I’m a friendly guy, have a lovely wife, and child on the way. I’m a normal person like you, or anybody else out there.
I’m sorry.. I’m just a little on edge as I’ve been on many diet related forums or sites in the past and have never been treated like a con man, or criminal before.. I thought I found someplace I can connect with, as it has a vast number of topics I’m interested in.. Yes I’m new to craigslist, but I’m also not an idiot.. I do not demand respect, but I sure don’t enjoy being walked all over either.
“the product isn’t that bad”. ???
Wow… what a great endorsement.
Why, pray tell, can’t you tell us what this “not bad” product is.
Why the secrecy surrounding it?
Is it a magic pill? A cleanse? A ThighMaster? “Lose weight in your sleep” CD.
What is it??
give me a break. I don’t know what pissed you off so much today.
Just because I have a positive comment about something doesn’t mean I am endorsing squat.. It’s simply a positive comment, nothing more. You, my friend read too much into messages.
If I say I like pizza… does that mean I am endorsing it? Does it mean I am a bad person for liking pizza? Are you somehow offended by the fact that I may like something that you do not?
I have browsed over some of your past posts and you seem to be an Ok person, so I’m going to sum up your attack on me as nothing more than you having an off day.
In general. people who pop up and make incredible claims about how much weight they have lost using XYZ product or method either don’t stay around too long, or all they have to say is how wonderful XYZ is.
All anyone has seen of you is what you have posted in the last two days. You got off to a really bad start by referencing a Fad Diet that doesn’t make it clear what it is until you commit to BUYING it.
Mostly, this forum is about REAL information and support, not
LOOSE (sic) WEIGHT QUICK schemes.
You claim to have lost 40 pounds in 2 months. I’m skeptical. You know what they say about “if it seems too good to be true.” You also only reference this marvelous plan. You don’t say anything ABOUT it. Again, that raises some red flags in my mind.
I lost 35 pounds in 6 months (and another 15 in the last 5 years).. and I’m happy to tell anyone how I did it. I ate less.. controlled my portions and ate only when I was hungry. I walked for at least an hour 5 mornings a week. Then I moved into running 3-4 times a week.
I don’t count, weigh or measure. I eat what I want. Just less of it. And every single day I kept positive messages going in my brain about myself and my body and what I was doing to take care of it.
There it is. That’s how I did it.
So… HOW DID YOU DO IT???
from the Help area. “craigslist moderators review postings brought to their attention by flags .. a quick judgement is made as to whether a thread, subthread, or post should be moved to misfit threads or deleted entirely.
”
thanks for that info §.
If you’re legite enough of your posts will stay. You should have seen these forums with no monitoring! I won’t go back. But I do hestitate to recommend any of my favorite websites… for fear I’ll get blocked. But, if people really wanted these websites, they’d find them. So I try focusing on why I like the products, so people might give it a try. If I didn’t use any products, I don’t know where I’d be. It is true that I used to sell the products I recommend. But we would charge $15 a box, and the websites charge $10. So I find the websites high value. They have better selection too.
You wanna see what. this forum would look like without flagging… wander over to the MONEY forum and take a look.
Ugly. Really ugly….
wow, you are right.. You are absolutely right. The Money forum is a total mess.
A bit more on moderation. Craigslist forums are community moderated. You’re talking to the moderators (mostly regular posters, though lurkers may also be a significant force).
The cl – flag help forum can give you additional information and feedback.
A post collecting three flags will get a priority review by a CL staff member. Flags appear to get reviewed a few times a day (every few hours), so a post may linger for a while before it’s purged. CL runs a very spare staff (headcount is about 40), so there’s only a very cursory glance at the content, though a poster’s other post history is visible, and may trigger a global purge (especially the case for prolific spammers and trolls).
Regulars are pretty sensitive to anything that smells spammy, and DiFo is pretty quick to purge trolls as well (I caught posts from a couple of antagonistic posters earlier, they’re now Isled — which is what happens to moderated posts).
For a sense of how much traffic gets moderated out, you might take a peek at the Isle of Misfit Threads. Be warned: It is not a happy isle.
