      nice poll!.

      Cookbook?

I mostly just read cookbooks, not cook from them.

My favorite one right now is a copy of the Frugal Gourmet on Our Immigrant Ancestors, borrowed from my grandmother’s house. There is a recipe for faux bulgogi in there that I am determined to make someday.

      Cooking utensil?

In terms of usefulness, metal tongs and silicone spatulas.

But just because I like it, a little spiral egg whisk.

      Small appliance (ex microwave, blender)?

      My rice cooker.

      Cooking method for veggies?

      Steamed or roasted.

Herb and/or spice to use in cooking?

Garlic and red pepper flakes are tied ftw.

      Condiment?

      Sriracha!

And finally, do you prefer to cook alone or do you like help?

I prefer to cook alone for a ton of people, with that ton visiting with me in and out while I cook and having a good time in other rooms where I can hear them. If I have a helper who can find their own equipment and actually do a task without me explaining and then showing every single step and can help without using fifty dishes and utensils and leaving a big mess behind, then I’m ok with a helper. Otherwise, I most enjoy cooking when I’m multi-tasking and working the hey out of my kitchen by myself.

Cooking utensil? Sharp knives. I didn’t think I was able to cook until I got some.

Small appliance (ex microwave, blender)? Hmm. Crock pot, I suppose.

Cooking method for veggies? Varies by season and veggie. Right now, if I have to cook a veggie, I’m probably not very happy about it. Warm weather = raw veggies. In other seasons, roasting wins.

Herb and/or spice to use in cooking? Oh man. This is tough. I suppose cayenne.

      Condiment? Sambal Oelek.

And finally, do you prefer to cook alone or do you like help? Alone. I’m pretty spazzy in the kitchen. Things usually turn out well, but if people saw the process, they’d probably be concerned about what they were about to eat.

    38. leiisGfr8 says:

Cooking method for veggies? Oven roasted. It’s still the only way I like some veggies.

Herb and/or spice to use in cooking? Does garlic count? I could add garlic to anything.

      Condiment? Honey mustard. Yum.

And finally, do you prefer to cook alone or do you like help? I don’t think I’ve ever had help, so I’m going to have to say alone. Although my favorite would be to have someone else do the cooking and cleaning up afterwards.

      Utensil: wooden spoon.

Appliance: Coffe maker. Teehee. It’s the nicest appliance I own.

      Cooking veggies: stir-fry.

Herb/spice: hmmm. Paprika. Cayenne is a recent fave, also. And I have some fancy mixes from Penzey’s for curries and other things.

Condiment: soy sauce and hoisin sauce. Salsa.

Cook alone: I get help. Actually, my BF is a MUCH better cook than I am. We’re talking reads the food blogs, replicates fancy restaurant dishes, uses ingredients I’ve never heard of. And he has been really great about accomodating my healthy lifestyle with his cooking. So I am really more like the sous-chef in this relationship.

    55. mavlre26 says:

My favorites:. Cookbook?…..Ummm, vegweb.com? If I had to pick a BOOK, I’ll go with BCoops’ old standby: How to Cook Vegetarian by Mark Bittman

Cooking utensil?…… I always call it my Sudoku knife, but I know that’s wrong. It’s the sharp one with little dimples so things don’t stick to the blade.

Small appliance (ex microwave, blender)?……. Microwave.

Cooking method for veggies?……. Roasted or steamed. Or grilled, if it’s summer and someone else is cooking.

Herb and/or spice to use in cooking?……. Garlic. Or The Spice House’s Pilsen Latino Seasoning. Or truffle salt. Mmmmmm, truffle salt.

      Condiment?………. Sriracha.

And finally, do you prefer to cook alone or do you like help?….. Usually by myself. Though I did have a cooking buddy for Iron Difo, but it was more like we cooked separately, side by side, on our own dishes. We weren’t really helping each other. That was fun.

    57. k-dingo says:

Dingo says…. Cookbook? Hrm. The IntarTubes, usually, though still have a soft spot for Betty Crocker.

Cooking utensil? Knives. Really sharp knives. There’s an awesome shop in Alameda called Japanese Woodworker which has some delish cutlery, up to multi-thousand-dollar watered Damascus steel blades. I’d settle for a nice $100 or so chef’s knife though, and something for paring. I did pick up a nice water stone for sharpening.

Small appliance (ex microwave, blender)? Most-used appliance: stove-top espresso maker. After that it’s the blender or toaster oven. Really not one for toys, at least not in the kitchen. Though I’ve been hankering after a KitchenAid for a while.

Cooking method for veggies? I often prefer to eat ‘em raw. Frequently steamed, though roasted is best.

Herb and/or spice to use in cooking? Thyme & garlic. No, you can’t limit me to just one.

      Condiment? Salsa.

And finally, do you prefer to cook alone or do you like help? That really depends on the help, what’s cooking, and how she’s helping.

      Japan Woodworker. Their knives.

My first introduction was at a friend’s house. Was slicing an apple, dug through the knife drawer, found a cleaver-looking thing. Dropped it through the apple, sides clung to the blade. I look at the edges I’ve just sliced — WTF?

Sliced off an apple shaving — a thin film of apple, easy as can be. “Woah, this is a knife.”

      Definite droolage.

Awesome store.. I bought some woodworking tools from them years ago.

I can totally believe that the knives are drool-worthy :)

      Cookbook? Joy of Cooking

      Cooking utensil? Whisk

Small appliance (ex microwave, blender)? Food Processor

      Cooking method for veggies? Grilled

Herb and/or spice to use in cooking? Garlic

      Condiment? Mustard or Tabasco.

And finally, do you prefer to cook alone or do you like help?

It depends who I am cooking with, but either one is fine.

      My answers:. Don’t use cookbooks

      Don’t have a favorite utensil

      Small appliance: George Foreman Grill

Depends on the veggie but steamed mainly

      Seasoned salt is my favorite

Unfortunately my favorite condiment is mayo…but I use it very sparingly these days

GET OUT OF MY KITCHEN!! Can’t stand people to be in my way…LOL

      Always the outcast…. Cookbook?

      …my spontaneous imagination

      Cooking utensil?

      …paring knife

      Small appliance (ex microwave, blender)?

      …toaster oven…I don’t use a full-size at all

      Cooking method for veggies?

…quick-steam in 1/4″ of water in a fry pan

Herb and/or spice to use in cooking?

…fresh vegs need nothing at all, so I’d say simply “buying fresh” is the best herb/spice

      Condiment?

…none, other than exactly one tsp olive oil sometimes used for stir-fry.

And finally, do you prefer to cook alone or do you like help?

…doesn’t matter. Honestly, if the woman I’m trying to seduce finds it sexy that I cook, then I want her in the kitchen with me, if it turns her on. Otherwise, it hardly matters. If it’s an evening to be with someone, I want her there all the time, and if it’s me alone, then I’m alone. Either is fine.
