Need some advice.. I am over weight.
5’9″, 43 years old, and weigh about 210 lbs.
I am trying to eat better. Alot more fruits, veggies.
The problem is….no matter what I eat, I feel so bloated. My stomach feels like it is going to explode.
I do not over eat, I eat until I am full, and I don’t eat fast. I do not like the bloating feeling and it doesn’t have anything to do with periods.
I can’t seem to lose any weight and wonder what I can do to do so. I have difficulties breathing – so exercise is difficult.
Please over advice – and please be nice. : )

Maybe instead of eating until you are full,. how about eating until you are no longer hungry. Start a food log, and measure your portions. Make sure to include EVERYTHING that you ingest, including liquids. Then report to us in a couple of days what you are actually eating and we will be able to try to help you.
Good luck!
Ok – thank you. for the advice.
Maybe I don’t know the difference between no longer hungry – or full. Sounds stupid, but never know.
It is very difficult to feel the difference. especially at first. That’s one of the reasons that I suggested that you measure what you eat. If you eat two cups of something and afterwards you feel overfull. Then the next time you can measure one cup and see how you feel afterward. You might be surprised that after a couple of minutes, you feel satisfied but not overfull. It often takes the brain some time to send the body the signal that you have eaten enough. It also takes some time to recognize the signal. It’s often easier, especially at first to just get used to what size portion is appropriate for you.
I will definately do this. thank you.. I bought some “green tea” tablets. Suppose to help – what are your thoughts on these?
I herd 18 minutes for the brain to acknowlege. the food you eat.
lifeisGr8 is right…who ever recommended to. start a journal is awesome. I never thought I’d do it or even measure my food. But now I do and I can’t stop!!! I think I’m a little obsessed about it now…lol
For my situation….. would you recommend a high fat diet (which I wouldn’t even know what to eat) or a low carb diet?
I have an awesome SO.. And our life together is great. But my weight gain makes me feel terrible in the bedroom – if you know what I mean.
And incase someone might think I want to lose for him – that is not true. I want to lose for me, but also so I feel better in the bedroom.
welcome, hey I’m older, heavier and shorter..lol. so tell us what exactly do you eat in a day? This way people will be able to give you better advise. I’m sure everyone will agree…Hey I’m 52 yrs 5’6″ and weigh 230. I have lost about 3-5 lbs since last Thursday. You would be surprised how good just a little exercise will help. But starting with the food is the right place to start. Oh and this place. You will get alot of advise and support…
Thank you for the warm welcome.. And I have seen how kind people are in their responses.
A typical day for me. And like I said, I am trying to do better.
Breakfast – bowl of honey graham cereal – or a bagel with a little cream chease or peanutbutter.
Snack – Yogart – lite.
Lunch – Chicken salad, or chicken wrap, or turkey sandwich with fruit
Snack – carrots
Dinner – whatever is quick and could mean just about anything. Have a younger daughter I run around bringing places.
I will admit I only drink about 40 oz. of water a day.
Example on how I feel:. Today I went to lunch with people from work and I was sassy.
I ordered the meatloaf special that came with mashed potatos, breadstick, and cooked veggies.
I ate the meatloaf, breadstick and some of the veggies and I feel so full – feels like my stomach is going to explode. And I did not feel like this when I finished eating.
One thing I try to do when eating out. eat the healthiest thing on your plate first. I typically eat the veggy first, protein second and lastly the starch/carbs. I tend to get full before I finish a plate and if I start with the junk first I dont finish my vegs and we all know thats bad!
I know I should do this.. And it is funny, because I thought about it today. I thought, eat all the veggies first. But this is what went through my mind.
“That is ALOT of veggies. And that meatloaf looks so good, you haven’t had it in so long, and that is why you ordered it.”
So I took a couple bits of meatloaf, then a couple bites of veggies.
But I also know – thinking to eat the good stuff first and not doing it, won’t help.
Why was I neged?. I know I have bad eating habits, I will be the first to admit it. But I am trying to do better. Before I would have ate the mashed potatoes and not touched the veggies, this time I didn’t touch the potatoes.
I am being honest so I can get some help – please do not neg me for it – whomever you were.
ignore. it means nothing!
I get the negs too..some peeps. are just that way. I give you a + just for being here…:)
Thank you very much!!! : ) §.
Feel embarrassed giving this. information, but I also do not have regular BM’s. Never have so I am sure this is part of the reason I feel so bloated. Which I am sure alot more water intake would help, but it is hard to drink more water when you already feel so full.
have you talked to your Doc about this? I also. have herd that some vegis tend to bloat you more then others. Ok this might be TMI but since I started eating better (1 week today) my BM’s have totally changed. But I’m still regular everyday. What goes in comes out the next day. Sorry if you all read this and give me a – just trying to be helpful.
No I haven’t talked to my doctor.. But – again. Probably too much information – I probably have BM’s every third day. Most of the time.
ohhhh, sorry to hear that. You. really should get that checked out.
Second the suggestion to talk to your doctor. Always a good idea to get a physical before starting a physical exercise program, too.
You could also try eating more fiber. There are supplements you can take if you’re having a hard time getting enough in your food. But may want to talk to a doctor first since you’ve never been regular to rule out any underlying medical problem.
If I went only once every three days, I’m sure I’d feel bloated, too. Hope you can get this cleared up soon!
Thank you very much everyone. for the advice.
I am sure I will be put on something to make me more regular.
nnnnnno. you don’t need to be PUT ON anything – you need to eat better and move – emphasize to your doctor that you would like to try to change your life without medication first
I just meant something that makes me. more regular. I have ALWAYS had a problem with being regular.
I am thinking of taking fiber pills or something. Something all natural.
beans and greens my dear. beans and greens, apples, onions, pears, grapes, broccoli broccoli broccoli!
peanut butter helps me. plenty of healthy fat in it. I have IBS type C, which means I tend towards the constipated end of things. I used to have the same problem until I went on a high fiber low fat diet. I make sure what I fat I get is healthy and unsaturated. Lots of fiber from veggies and fruits now. Lean meats only, nothing fatty.
I have the same issue. or I did before I started eating right and exercising. I have learned that all I have to do now is eat more veggies, which helps to “solidify” things (after 3 days of no BM’s I would usually end up with very loose stools).
And I go for a walk daily. It works every time so I actually take a walk every day now just so that I can move things through. I have to make sure that I am near a bathroom though, because it will come on quick.
So try that, go for a walk and eat more veggies in most meals than you do protein and I bet you will see a difference.
you could have allergies or sensitivities. try an elimination and challenge diet that removes common allergens such as dairy and wheat for six weeks, then try to reintroduce one of them and see what happens
a thought or two. After reading all the replies, I noticed that no one had mentioned sodium (salt). Most of us have way too much salt in our diet without even realizing it. Salt can absolutely make you retain water and feel bloated. You may want to discuss your appropriate salt intake with your doctor (along with the BM issues, for sure) and monitor your intake to see if that could be part of the problem.
Also a suggestion about the overeating aspect. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to tell your stomach that you’re full. The problem with that is, that in reality the feeling of being “full” means you have overeaten. What you should do is start the meal with a glass of water (thirst is very often mistaken for hunger), then eat slowly, take a break for a few minutes, eat a bit more. Make sure to self-evaluate. Ask yourself “am I still HUNGRY???” if the answer is “no”, then stop eating. You should only eat until you are not hungry, instead of getting full.
Also, you might want to look into a cleanse or detox to help get your regularity on the right track. But be careful and ask your doctor, detoxing strips the “good” out with the “bad”,but any quality detox program will dedicate itself to replacing to good bacteria it took out of your colon previously.
Sorry that’s a lot of thoughts…
