How could I have improved my diet today, please?. Capful of whey protein in water after working out this morning.
Mini bagel with Philadelphia cream cheese and two coffees with 2% fat milk.
Around 30 roasted almonds and 10 raw almonds.
Bowl of chicken, celery, carrots, and broccoli in a broth of water, ginger, and garlic.
5 Tablespoons of Jiff creamy peanut butter.
3 prunes
Salad – raw kale, broccoli, romaine, tomato with very little white vinegar and extra virgin olive oil

Thank you for reading and for any helpful suggestions! Happy Health!

It depends. What is your diet goal?. Are you trying to lose weight, gain weight? Some of it sounds good. But it also sounds high in fat and low in healthy carbs.
Need more information from you.. We really need more information from you to know if we’re gonna help you with your diet. It looks like it’s a pretty low calorie count all together with few carbohydrates, so you’re trying to lose weight I guess? Maybe?
Whether you are trying to bulk up or lose weight, the 30/30/40 breakdown always works nicely; that is 30% of your calories come from carbohydrates, 30% of the calories come from fat, and 40% of the calories come from protein. I know some people avoid carbohydrates like the plague, but they shouldn’t. Avoid simple carbohydrates, eat complex carbohydrates, like whole grain breads, whole grain cereals, oatmeal, etc.
Your diet looks like it might be high in fat (each gram of fat is roughly 9 calories whereas protein and carbohydrates are roughly 4, so you should be eating WAY more protein/carbohydrates by mass than fat. Still, the types of food you have listed all look good, you just maybe need to switch around the quantities: maybe more chicken, less fatty foods (5 tablespoons of peanut butter is a lot of fat).
Thank You, Both! Diet goal is to lose weight. I’ve lost about 30 pounds in a year, and need to lose 20 more.
I am embarrassed to mention this but I forgot two items that I ate yesterday:
Approx. 7 saltine crackers, and
One grapefruit
I am not sure how to fit complex carbs in this diet. I usually have oatmeal, but I thought I’d take a break from oatmeal with minibagels and cream cheese.
You both helped me a lot, thanks so much! Now I understand I have too much fat in my diet, so I’ll go for more protein. You are right about being scared of carbs. If I even look at whole wheat pasta, I gain weight.
I’m not the best at analyzing diet. Lord knows mine’s not the best:) But I was just wondering what your daily calorie goal is, because with the almonds and PB alone that is around 755 cal, that was really the only thing that caught my attention they are both good fats but very calorie dense.
Hello There! And Thank You!!. I never want to go over 1800 but 1400 would be ideal. I am horrible at counting calories but I try to break my intake down with mini 100 or 200 or 300 calorie ‘meals’ throughout the day.
I go to the gym and I think I burn about 400 calories a day, too. One day I do cardio, the next weights, but when I do weights, I warm up for 10-15 minutes or so on a basketball court, just running and shooting the ball in the basket.
