Booze question. Michelob Ultra, Bud light, and Amstel Light are all between 95 and 110 calories a bottle.
Vodka with club soda or with diet cola comes in about 65-75 calories if small, and about 110-120 if large.
Calorie wise the clear grains (vodka, gin etc) come in slightly better than light beers (I have yet to try the 64 calorie beer).
Are there any other factors that impact weight loss I should be considering when choosing between beer and booze? Do you metabolize them differently or is it a pure numbers choice?
TIA

for me when I drink beer it seemed or should. say when I used to drink beer. It really put on the weight. then I switched to vodka martinis. Still gained weight. But I was not watching what I ate and not exercising. Then I started drinking Sparks with a vodka kick and boy did it add some more lbs. (sugar in the sparks) I really think I was on the verge of being an alcoholic. That was only 3 weeks ago. Now I’m eating very healthy, exercising and I have only had a few martinis last Friday. I think, wait, I know I can do this. Hell I still have vodka in my freezer and it does not even bother me. I am so proud of myself. Heck I even got laid off from my job 3 weeks ago and thought I’d go way downhill! But NOT!!! I’ve lost between 3-5 lbs already. Only been a week. For me just need to cut it out all together. But we’ll see this weekend if I falter…lol
weekends can be hard girl. but stick to it – if you have one treat, that’s not a reason to give up!
hey, good luck to you on kicking it. always best to nip things in the bud. I have no idea what Sparks is but i’m googling!
i would think…. that something like the alcohol + diet soda would give you the best bang for your buck, in terms of getting drunk withe least effect on your goals.
for a relaxing evening, i would probably stick with the beer, as i imagine a beer would last you longer than a mixed drink, so you’ll hopefully have less and do less damage.
so i guess for me, it would depend on the situation and desired “outcome” (aka relaxed or wasted).
i’m sure there are differences in how they’re digested, but my gut tells me that they’re going to be mostly negligible, especially if you’re not drinking frequently. i may have read an article about this lately…if i can find it, i’ll come back and post.

I think its all just numbers. but personally I would go for the vodka, stronger booze=less drinking!
if it’s just a numbers game then I’d probably. go with the booze myself to cut the numbers a smidge, but not feel bad about having light beer if I’m feeling that.
thanks you guys I just love this place. since I found it. So much support. I think just vodka would or will be my choice. When I choose to drink. Less cals and a quicker little buz…lol it’s all sugar when it hits you system no matter how you look at it.
I looked into the 64 calorie beer…. and not only does it have half the calories, it also has half the alcohol. It will take you double the amount of beer to get the buzz. You might as well have 2-3 of the good stuff!
Yep

Really? I’ve been drinking MGD 64. for months now. . . I guess maybe my tolerance has just gone down. B/c I sure do get a buzz off of them just like I did Bud Lights.
To the op. . .Michelo ultra and Bud light are only about 10 calories difference. If you like one over the other, drink that one.
But 64′s are pretty good tasting. I actually don’t like Bud ligt much anymore after switching to MGD 64. . . and since Bud light has 110 calories. It’s almost double the calories.
I guess I’ll ignore the comment that the 64 supposedly has less alcohol in it. Maybe it’s mental. . .b/c I can get a pretty darn good buzz off the same amount I do bud light.
A list of the alcohol content of most beers…. http://www.alcoholcontents.com/beer/beer.htm
MGD64 only has 2.8%, but hey whatever works right? I also like the taste of MGD64 =)
You may have already seen this,. but it’s a good read on the subject of booze and calories:

My drinks of choice are typically red wine, vodka with club soda and a splash of cranberry (for optimal liver health, of course
, or jack and diet coke. Beer just makes me *feel* bloaty, but that’s just me, plus I think the light beers taste like shit.
My biggest issue as it pertains to drinking is making poor food choices, but I have gotten better about that as of late.
I was just trying to find that link to post!. I’m not trying to lose weight (if I were I’d cut way back/possibly eliminate alcohol). For me, it’s better to drink beer because I get greater volume of liquid.
I used to drink way more wine than beer, but wine servings are pretty small, so I’d have more than one, and then it seemed silly to put the bottle back in the fridge with only a little left…
Beer is, in some respects, automatic portion control since it’s very unlikely I’d open up a second bottle.
Also, I have (sadly) become a bit of a beer snob, so if I’m going to drink beer, it’s going to be something good. I’d rather ingest more calories with a quality beer than waste any on light beer.
Agreed on the beer snob tip…. I can’t drink shit beer. The lackluster flavor and mega-carbonation combo just makes me sad in the tummy. PLUS I read somewhere that Guinness is actually good for you, sooo…
mmmm i love guinness. Or a Gin and tonic please. §.
