Best Tasting, Best Quality Vodka. As of late, I have taken to Vodka as my drink of choice. I tried a few different kinds; and did a bit of reading. I have enjoyed both Grey Goose and Stolichnaya (Stoli) so far; I can tell a bit of the quality difference in terms of “texture”.
While I am largely unaware of the fine points of Vodka; I’d like to be educated as to how I can tell them apart in (in a fairly short form).
From my understanding is a Stoli is a ‘top shelf’ vodka, while Grey Goose, is a bit lower? I do understand the reasons to stay away from the lower end vodkas (Burning, acidic tastes, too watery, the whole plastic bottle / tin cap).
How can I get closer to the Stoli, or some other levels, without breaking my budget? I have also heard good things about Zyr, can anyone suggest comparable vodkas at the top levels?
Thanks

I have heard of people buying the lower quality. and then filtering? it, so it tastes higher quality….who knows.
Sky vodka is best tasting medium quality. Or atleast that’s what the bossman said
I don’t drink.
You may be a bit late,. but if you’re lucky one of the ___________ in here will chime in. Maybe, if you’re lucky, she’ll use the words “unctuous” or “mouthfeel” and then? It’s a win-win.
are you still. carrying on about the mouthfeel thing?
stupid is as stupid does. §.
Umm, why are you posting this here again? §.
Who told you Grey goose is not top shelf?. They were wrong.
Definitely higher up there than Stoli.
I agree about Skyy, or try absolut, Svedka, or (my personal favorite) Ketel 1 (a bit of a budget buster though)
cheers!
I have worked in hospitality for 15 years. and the differences have to do with a number of factors including the quality of the ingredients, but primarily the filtration method, and the number of times it has been filtered to remove impurities. (You can Google this to get the full story.)
Grey Goose, Belvedere, Chopin, and Ciroc are all premium vodkas. Stoli is not considered as “good” as those. In blind taste tests, Smirnoff vodka (a cheapie) has consistently outperformed most higher end vodkas, to the chagrin and embarrassment of premium vodka producers.
If you are drinking a martini or vodka straight up, this matters. In a bloody mary or mixed with fruit juice…NO ONE can taste the difference, so save your money. Some people say that premium vodkas produce less of a hangover, but I don’t know of any actual testing of this theory.
super helpful for my wedding planning. I don’t drink, like at all, and so if you have any other recommendations on good brands to go for in other liquors, I’d love to hear it.
I’m a huge Stoli/Grey Goose fan. but have started buying Three Olives as a cheaper alternative. It helps that it comes in cherry
mixed with some juice, they all taste the same. go to the food forum
Google Vodka taste tests. For some funny reading…. blind taste tests reveal a lot when it comes to top and bottom shelf vodka. I think it was ABC that did one in a bar and most everyone professed to LOVE Grey Goose. However, at the end of the night, Grey Goose was rated one of the worst. Needless to say, the tasters were shocked.
Reminds me of the wine testing by ‘pros’ last year that selected Trade Joe’s Two Buck Chuck over high dollar wine. Or a similar wine test based on price per glass. Of course, the tags were switched and of course, the so-called high dollar wine won top honors. Reality was they liked the cheap wine the best haha!
It’s all in the name and packaging sometimes.
I think Grey Goose tastes the worst…. Personally, when I was drinking on the regular, I rotated between Stoli Vanil and Absolut Limon. Two of the best tasting. I also happened to frequent a bar that made their own flavored vodkas ( the peppercorn vodka and chipotle vodkas were amazing in bloody mary’s!) and I know they didn’t start out with top shelf stuff. Ciroc is supposed to be top notch, but can’t say I ever drank it. I always was a Vodka and Rum kinda gal. Rum wise, I started out a bit of a Bacardi snob, but moved on to other brands…
Two buck fucked!. sorry, common expression for getting drunk on 2 buck chuck.
