Eating Late is a real weight gainer. Stress may be a factor. If it is, try a hot bath followed by a good book and wrapping yourself in a warm comforter. Tough if you have kids. May have to wait until they are in bed. Get the fattening stuff out of your house. Replace it with healthy cereal you can use to snack.

It's ok. We all have those days. Atleast I know I do. I tend to do that when I'm stressed so I'm still trying to find another way of handling my stress other than with food.

It doesn't sound. like it was emotional eating, it sounds more like your body was was really, truly hungry. Sometimes I have a day like that if I've eaten on the lower end of my calorie range for the day or two preceding...or if I've done one or more particularly tough workouts and haven't eaten enough to properly refuel from them.

Or, did you not get enough sleep or didn't sleep well the night before? You said you had no energy all day, and being tired can trick your body into thinking it's hungry when it's not.

In either case, there's no sense in beating yourself up over it now. What's done is done, and the best thing you can do for yourself is to just get right back on track the next day.

Stop with the shame. Here's why:. When you diet and lose weight, your body mounts a hormonal counter-assault on your will power. It floods you with chemicals that make you want to eat and which can leave you obsessed with food. This is a normal reaction for your ancient body. It's designed to get a starving caveman out of the cave and into the snow to look for food. IT's not rational in the modern age so we have trouble understanding it, but it's perfectly normal reaction. And it is a hormonal assault unlike anything else we experience.

This is one of the problems with our cultural refusing to recognize the biological realities of obesity and dieting. When someone does what you did, they invoke a lot of superstitious shame because they have no context for their experience.

The next time you're feeling this way, which may very well be this afternoon, just remind yourself what's driving this urge to eat even when you aren't hungry. Fill up on greens. Have a good mix of protein and fat. Throw a little bit of whole grain carbohydrate in there. The best thing you can do is genuinely fill yourself up on greens and hopefully move your body past this episode. It's not being as full as your body wants to be that triggers this hormonal assault. Just remember, it's perfectly normal if unwanted in this day and age. It's your body functioning the way it is supposed to function and you can deal with it.

One of the obesity researchers talks about how not eating when your body wants you to is a bit like not breathing heavily after running upstairs. Sure you can control your breath for a few seconds, but you're probably going to relent and breath hard even if you don't want to. Hormonal urges are almost impossible to ignore and they are the reason most weight loss efforts fail. Just keep that in mind as you experience it.

Here are a couple articles that talk about the experience briefly:
