• I dreamt cold-cuts including vegies. (mostly vegies) were served at the local movies in the future (rather than junk food!). GASP I figured junk food must still be around for those brave enough to consume it.

  • Lean Plate Club. Has anyone ever heard of it? I recently picked up a book, and it’s pretty resourceful.

  • High Cholesterol… Am I on the right track?. I am 44 years old and have moderately high cholesterol. I am 5′9″ tall and weigh about 180lbs. I found out about the high cholesterol about a month ago. Since then I have cut down a lot on most of the junk food I eat (I can’t keep away from the 3 times per week popcorn). I don’t eat much meat. The only meat I eat is some fish (if you can call that meat) I’ll have that maybe once a week.

I used to be a pretty strict vegetarian. Now I eat Eggs (I switched to Egg Whites), I drank whole milk for most of my life. I tried Soy Milk but it takes some getting used to. I only use milk with cereal so I will drink 2% now. I used to eat mostly Pasta and a veggie for dinner and weighed between 110 and 115 lbs. When I weighed 130 – 140 lbs I was pretty happy. I’d like to get back to that weight. I walk about 1 mile probably every other day. Gym fees are way too costly in my area. I live out in the sticks so walking or riding a bike is sort of treacherous. I’d need to carry a gun to keep any stray wild animals from attacking me. So working out is quite a task in my area. I have to drive 15 miles just to go to the track but it’s my only form of decent exercise at the moment.

Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

  • Chubby hubby…advice?. When I first met my husband, he was overweight. He’s 6′3″ and was 240-250lbs…now I think he’s 300-310 lbs. He won’t get on a scale because he doesn’t want to know how much he weighs, but the last time he was on a scale he was 300 lbs. He says he wants to lose weight, that he doesn’t want to get diabetes or die early, but he does nothing substantial to acheive those goals. He doesn’t exercise. He’ll “eat healthy” for a couple of days and then stop. He has low self-esteem because of his weight. He doesn’t like to dress nicely, go clothes shopping, or go to holiday parties because he becomes self-conscious about his weight espeically when he’s next to me (I’m 5′9 and 130 lbs).

I want to help him in every way possible. I try to persuade him to walk our dogs with me, but he tells me he’s too tired after work or that he’d rather do something else, like working on the car or playing video games or watching tv. I try to buy fruits, veggies, and low-fat foods and stay away from the junk food, but he usually eats fast-food or junk food for lunch when he works. When he’s at home, he eats large portions and clears his plate even after he’s full. He’s an emotional eater. If we fight, he eats. If he’s sad, he eats.

I don’t know what to do to help him. If I talk to him about his weight, he either gets sad or depressed and it only hurts his self-esteem. Is there anyone else in a similar situation? How do I talk to him about his weight in a way that won’t upset him? How I can I try to get him to exercise and eat smaller, healthier portions?

  • it is back on the horse day!!!. think i can reasonably lose 10 lbs by dec 23rd?

  • Is 2 hours/day cardio too much? 1500 calories?. here’s the deal:

I’m 45 years old, female, 5′8″ and 255 pounds. Former heavy exerciser who jogged, hiked 14ers, lifted weights – until about 8 years ago.

Gained 60 pounds in 2001 due to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (low thyroid) and I’m now on 200 micrograms of Synthroid daily. Gained another 20 taking antidepressants, then packed on another 20 from total sloth and exercise despair.

Started getting fit right after Halloween, when some digital photos scared the absolute crap out of me.

I have been slowly introducing changes – water and diet drinks, no alcohol or soda, 50% of my plate is fruits and veggies, cutting out fast food – and have lost 5 pounds.

I’m really excited to be back in the gym again, and plan to burn 1,000 calories a day, seven days a week, either cycling/spinning, walking slowly (3.3-3.5 mph) on a treadmill or on the elliptical.

Today, for example, I did 45 minutes on the treadmill, 45 minutes on the elliptical, and 30 minutes on a rower. Total time: 120 minutes of cardio, 1,080 calories burned.

I am shooting to lose 2-3 pounds a week, maybe a bit more if I can convert to totally eating ‘clean’. Am I unrealistic? Heading for injury? I stretch and warm up, then cool down religiously, and keep my heart rate at about 120 all two hours.

Advice? Thoughts? Good jokes to tell? I’m eagerly waiting…

  • juicing made me gain weight ?. started juicing banana, strawberry, pineapple, yogurt and tofu 2 months ago – everyday. I gained 10 lbs.

i am 53, usually weight 105-110 lbs, but now 120+.

I thought juicing is good for you ?

all natural fruits. I don’t add sugar.

I am juicing instead of eating a meal, and most of days 1-2 glasses of juice is all of my daily intake.

is the weight gain due to juicing ???
