• Running/speedwalking 3 miles every day…. I’ve been speedwalking with occasional sprints of running for 3 miles every evening for the past month, and it’s helping me to lose weight and tone up… but I have to ask… I see so many people post about running three miles during lunch at work or doing 3 miles before breakfast and another 6 at night (yikes!) that it just blows me away that it still feels like SUCH hard work to me, and 3 miles seems so far.

PLEASE tell me it gets easier, or at least let me in on it if it’s this hard for the rest of you!~ :o )

  • Ok I have a question for a salad. I ate a few years ago that had cut apples, some sort of nut and a sweet tasting dressing. I haven’t been able to find the “recipe” for this salad anywhere, I am dying to find it because it was a very fulfilling and low in fat salad that I actually enjoyed and would like to eat again while on my low fat diet.

  • forget the fads. read a book called “Eat Right for your Type”

(blood type that be) and do moderate excercise every day// and you will go down if ya do it ……….former fatso

  • New snack I found at Costco. I found something yummy at Costco yesterday! Its called “Stuffed Grape Leaves” and is “real” food and tasted heavenly!

Ingredients: Rice, onion, tomatoes, parsley, red bell pepper, tomato paste, grape leaves, canola oil, water, cilantro, extra virgin olive oil, salt, lemon juice, garlic powder, citric acid, dill, mint and black pepper. Calories 60, fat 2.5g, carbs 9g, protein 1g, fiber 1g.

They are about a finger length long, cut into 3 or 4 pieces was really satisfying.

    Thought I would share:-)

Anyone else have a great snack idea to share?

  • How the French stay thin without the gym. No, this isn’t about a magic drug, it’s about how fake the gym is and how one gets enough exercise by living right, rather than by torturing ones self in the artificial environment of the gym:

    http://shine.yahoo.com/event/autumninnewjeans/4-ways-french-women-stay-thin-without-the-gym-515174/

    Snippet:

“From the 15th floor windows of my New York City apartment, I have a clear view of a big and many windowed “health center,” (aka a four-story gym complex). September is one of the gym’s busiest months. Right after Labor Day, active women, who I hope are incorporating daily outdoor activities with a seasonal summer flavor into their daily routines, flock indoors to the gym and an artificial routine of treadmills, exercise bikes and medieval torture devices. I see them sweating early mornings and late at night from my windows. I see them going and coming from my daily walk as I pass the gym.

It is a sign of the times — but also our American culture — that many women seem to have only two modes: sitting or spinning. They’re either avoiding even the slightest heart rate increase (like those women in my apartment building who take the elevator to the second floor) or they’re sentencing themselves to hours at the gym as punishment for their indulgences throughout the day. So often I see the begrudging look on women’s faces and hear the phrase, “I don’t want to go to the gym, but I have to.” Pourquoi? If you are eating mindfully, and eating the correct portion sizes, you don’t have to torture yourself on those metal contraptions or run a marathon to stay trim. French women reject the notion of “no pain, no gain,” opting for a more pleasurable notion of mild, sustained exertion. We prefer all-day movement, what I like to call “the slow burn,” and we practice it as second nature instead of attacking it like boot camp.

  • a late lunch thread?.

  • One diet/fitness/health piece of advice. OK since its slow today…

What is one piece of advice related to diet/health/fitness you would give to someone who is starting out.

Try not to duplicate and answers already posted so we can see how many great ideas are out there.

  • Note to women wanting to be thin.. I’m not trying to start a fight, but as a guy I have to say that it appears to me that when you turn on the TV or look at a magazine, the women in these ads are completely unrealistic. They are wafer-thin little skinny women- I say women only because they have a woman’s head. Otherwise since they have no boobs, butt, or anything else they could for all practical purposes be a man.

So here’s a little secret: Men actually like women in most cases to be on the curvy side. If you’re naturally thin then that’s one thing. That’s ok. But if you’re not and desperately try to look like the women on TV, then realize that there are actually quite a few men who might like you just the way you are. Now there’s a difference between people who are unhealthy and obese versus people who are bit larger. So when I see women walking furiously even though they weigh like 120 pounds I can’t help but wonder why they’re doing it.

Personally, I do not find skinny women at all attractive. Ever see an older skinny woman? They don’t age that well. They turn into sacks of bones. My Wife is not skinny and I think she’s beautiful.

So anyway, I just wanted to say that you don’t have to kill yourself to get skinny. Just follow a “normal” healthy routine – as in a little exercise here and there and some decent food- and you’ll be just fine.
